Farm buildings renovations Part 2 – May 2021

Whilst the initial plan was to complete the first four buildings we soon realised the value of completing all six buildings together. The logistical advantages of having the builders already on site and able to switch between different tasks on different buildings was hugely advantageous. However, the inconvenience of having only half of the site completed, with guests of the newly renovated lets having to endure a building site for a year, convinced us that we had to finish all six buildings in one go. Able to finance the rest of the project we began work on the Piggery and Dairy.

Farm buildings renovations Part 2 – May 2021

At the start of May the middle of the Dairy roof was stripped, battened, and tiled. We were unable to strip the ends of the roof due to Jackdaw’s nesting on either end of the building, this did slow things up a bit but we had enough to get on with in different areas so it wasn’t too much of a problem.

After digging out the floors we began laying stone and installing waste and water pipes in the Stables. The floor was concreted in mid-May.

What would be the bedrooms in the Haybarn had now been stoned levelled and concreted. With the block wall on the north side knocked down.

The beginning of June saw the loft floor of the stables stripped, repaired and relayed. The carpenters then began the work of constructing the stud wall partitions for the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms.  By mid-June the initial studwork was completed and most of the walls insulated. The downstairs walls were also insulated and the partition for the downstairs toilet constructed.

The Calf shed was fully insulated by the start of July with the partition for the bathroom completed. As well as the stud wall separating the living area from the bedroom.

Stud work and wall insulation began in the English barn. By the middle of July, the mezzanine floor was constructed with a temporary staircase. To allow studwork to be completed on both floors. By the end of July the tall wooden barn doors had been removed and the interior scaffolded ready for roof insulation.

By the end of July we had begun plaster boarding the stables and installed the first of the windows and doors on the English barn and Haybarn.
